New Aircraft Avionics installation and functionality Essay
New Aircraft Avionics installation and functionality - Essay Example It also describes and shows the block diagram, power source wiring, and the electrical cable routing for the three systems. The paper also details the operation and functionality of the remaining two systems in reference to their block diagram, power source wiring, and the electrical cable routing. The report describes the system in depth including the exact functions of the systems, detailing their peripherals and their form of redundancy. The chosen hypothetical avionics systems include communication and navigation system, cabin and cockpit information system, flight instruments (flight recorders), hazard detection system, and surveillance system. Discussion. Communication and Navigation Systems. Receivers and transmitters are widely used in aviation communication and navigation systems. The transmitters and receivers are used together with one ore antennae, which are responsible in implementation of the vital and crucial link between the ground stations, aircrafts, satellites, and other aircrafts. One of the devices used in facilitating navigation and communication is a simple radio communication system. The radio comprises of the receiver and the transmitted that uses the continuous wave signal. Communication is attained through keying or switching the radio frequencies on and off. Switching the radio signal is achieved through interruption of power supple or the oscillator stage, it is usually applicable within the stage of the driver operating at a modest power level. The oscillator stage of keying normally leads to impaired frequency stability. However, the appreciable currents and voltages appearing in the power amplifier stage also prove to be problematic. A simpler CW consists of the radio amplifier, audio amplifier and the detector. The detector stage mixes a domestic generated signal of the radio frequency that is produces by beat frequency oscillator with the coming signals that produces a signal within the radio frequency ranging between 300 Hz an d 3.4 KHz. Antennas are normally used for navigation purposes in aircrafts. There are various practical kinds of antenna used in aviation related applications that include vertical quarter wave antenna, vertical half wave antennas, and also 5/8th wave vertical antennas. Vertical quarter wave antennas produce an omnidirectional radiation pattern in the radiate vertically polarised systems and the horizontal plane. The antennas can be produced for the high HF and VHF bands but the length is prohibitive for usage on the LF bands and low HF (Lombardo, 1993). To produce a flat radiation design it is important to include an effective ground plane. At VHF, it can be attained by employing the 4 quarter wave radial elements. The vertical half wave antennas is voltage fed rather than the current fed. Antennas that are voltage fed requires resonant transformer that is connected between antennaââ¬â¢s end and low impedance coaxial feeder. The arrangement is liable to loses because it needs hi gh quality, and low loss components. It also requires careful adjustment in order to achieve results and therefore they are usually preferred. The5/8th wave vertical antennas offer a compact solution to the essentiality of an Omni-directional VHF. Radio systems: Antennae. Cabin and Cockpit Information Systems In the aviation sector, accessing the correct information in the proper place, at the right period, is important in supporting decisions and enhancing operations. The information system,

The determinants of the rate of interest and the significance of Essay
The determinants of the rate of interest and the significance of interest rates to policy makers and other economic actors - Essay Example It is described as interest in percentage of the amount of funds borrowed. This is a simple explanation of the rate of interest. Let's review some definitions of the rate of interest to comprehend the concept (Unit 3). Bannock et al has defined the rate of interest as the price a borrower has to pay to enjoy the use of cash which he or she does not own, and the return a lender enjoys for deferring consumption or parting with liquidity (1998:346). According to Mike Moffatt, "The interest rate is the yearly price charged by a lender to a borrower in order for the borrower to obtain a loan. This is usually expressed as a percentage of the total amount loaned". (http://economics.about.com/cs/economicsglossary/g/interest_rate.htm). Thus, interest rate is the annually charged in percentage on the principal. Interest is derived by dividing the amount of interest by the amount of principal. Inflation and the government policies play a crucial part in bringing fluctuations in the interest rates (www.investorwords.com/2539/interest_rate.html). It is pivotal to know that although each bank decides its interest rates by its own on the loans sanctioned but actually local rates are almost same in different banks. When there is inflation, interest rates go up because of increased need of credit, tight money market, or for the reason that banks' need to maintain a higher reserves. Any of the reasons affect the business activity and the stock market as well. Businesses in need of funds have to pay more for the same amount of borrowing and the investors would prefer to invest in bank deposits or newly launched bonds than purchasing shares (http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/interest-rate.html). Determinants of interest rate levels Parameters of interest rates (Upton, 2009) are defined by supply and demand when the supply of money is equal to the desire of economic entities to borrow. Further, it is important to know the factors that affect supply and demand. Since interest is a pay back for delaying consumption, a higher rate of interest will accrue in more supply of funds. We can say that in different circumstances an interest rate may not result in same supply of funds. In different countries people don't have the same concern for consumption, as one can perceive that there are different savings rates. When economic conditions are not stable, people are more induced to save, as seen in their behaviour during "depression generation". Demand (Upton, 2009) on the contrary, depends on the availability of investments. At the low interest rates investments provide more margins. With the positive growth environment and technological advancement, demand for investment will boost. Other things that impact future growth are rate of increase in population, labour force, and education and skill standards. On the whole economic environment and production environment determine the level of demand for funds. The interest rate is (Upton, 2009) determined by the economic and other factors causing increase in the capacity of consu

Abortion in America Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Abortion in America - Essay Example The first instance was of Connecticut which criminalized abortion in the year 1821. Even in the cases of rape and incest, filing a police first investigation report was a prerequisite. However a woman with the name of Norma L. Mcorvay filed a petition against the abortion laws which fueled up the great debate of pro-life vs. pro-choice In June 1969, Mcorvay found out that she was pregnant with her third child and immediately decided to have an abortion. However due to its criminalization she could not get it done at any hospital. She was advised to register as a rape victim, however it did not happen there was no police report about the alleged incident. In 1970, two lawyers by the name of Coffee and Weddington filed a petition against the laws criminalizing abortion. The lawyers represented Mccorvay under the alias of Jane Roe while the Texas state was represented by Henry Wade (Mohr). Before the start of the legal proceedings, Roe conceded that she had not been raped and that case was actually meant as a plea to grant freedom to women regarding their personal choices. After multiple hearings a decision was finally announced on January 22, 1973. The court made abortion one of the fundamental rights under the US constitution, marking the beginning of a new era (Hoffer and Hoffer). There were many proposals including the proposal of viability which said that a woman can only have abortion until the fetus in her womb is not viable. By viable, it meant that the fetus could survive outside the motherââ¬â¢s body. However much of the freedom was granted to women and she could have an abortion after consulting a physician. . The case raised a fiery debate not only in the judicial circles but also among political and social groups. On one hand, the decision was heralded as a victory for women rights while on the other hand it came out as a blow to the believers of pro-life. The decision was controversial and still a large population of the country believes that it s hould be reverted. Perhaps the biggest shock to the whole pro-life vs. pro-choice debate was dealt by Mcorvay herself when she revealed in 1995 that she had become a proponent of pro-life (Bergel). Since then she has spoken openly against abortion and even filed petitions to overturn the decision, which did not yield any conclusive result. In the light of the above arguments, it can fairly easily be said that the matter is a very complicated one because abortion does not only affect the physical well-being of women but also psychological and emotional well-being. Therefore there needs to be a thorough study of the statistical data about peopleââ¬â¢s opinions as well as a sound scientific study before any further decision in this regard is taken. Although both sides of the debate has very strong points, I believe that abortion should not be legalized unless in the most extremes of cases. There are many forms of contraception available including, early morning pill and condoms; the refore unwanted pregnancies can easily be avoided if these contraceptive measures are taken. Legalization of abortion actually demeans the reproductive function of sex and projects it only as a means of having pleasure. This encourages unprotected sexual intercourse since unwanted conception can easily be aborted causing a greater number of people to be at a risk of contacting sexually transmitted diseases. Since legalization of abortion poses more of a threat rather than relief to the general well-being of women, it should only is legal in extreme cases. For example, in a situation like rape where the conception actually reminds the women of the trauma and puts a negative impact on her psychological well-being, abortion should be legalized. Also in some pregnancies, some extreme

A Short Story Essay Example for Free
A Short Story Essay During Maytagââ¬â¢s final surrender to Whirlpool, appliance parts are now in surplus. As a result, the warehouse has been shipped an overabundance of parts. The likes of which we rarely see. Because the market has gone down in flames, the demand for appliance parts is sky-high. Thus we have a beautiful supply and demand ratio between our suppliers and our customers. Since no one has the capital to go out and purchase a brand new washing machine or refrigerator, in spite of Obamaââ¬â¢s Energy Star credit stimulus, more and more appliances are being serviced. This allows servicers to keep in business and increase profits. Their increase in business requires that they purchase more parts from us, of which we are consistently replenishing due to the business deals made by our suppliers. Thus the servicer is never thrown into hysteria over a lack of parts. Thus we keep in business. Thus we keep our jobs. We even manage to allocate overtime on occasion. I know all this because the warehouse hides nothing from me. The warehouse needs me. The warehouse is me. Or else Iââ¬â¢d like to think. By the end of the shift we are all manifesting the last of the packages that are to be shipped out via UPS and FedEx. The trailers are closed. The semis drive off. The workers go home. I stay to close shop. I print the manifest reports and shut down the computers. I record our shipping quantities and turn out the lights. The doors are locked, the security enabled. I shut the last door before I stroll to the bus stop. The driver sees my monthly pass purchased online at the warehouseââ¬â¢s very own computer, addressed to my own PO box. The driver lets me on. There are a couple of folks onboard. One works at Chili Works not too far from the warehouse. The other is a Wal-Mart employee. We are all considered workers of the underclass. The only difference is that I have approximately ten grand in my savings. Most people are ten grand in dept. Of course, not too many take microeconomics as seriously either. When my girlfriend cheated on me and insurrected herself from our apartment, I decided to take control of my cash. I realized that I was spending nearly six thousand dollars a year in rent money. When the lease was up, I took the capital gained from the security deposit, including the five dollar interest they were required to give, and invested in a bicycle. Of course, I invested in the bicycle after I totaled my Pontiac grand prix. I did this because for the next year I would have to spend three thousand dollars in car payments and two-thousand dollars in gasoline. The insurance forked me four grand. At this point I was a bit of an alcoholic anyway so I decided that the car was an opportunity cost. If I wanted to continue to go to the bars each night and have my juicy burger and tray full of cigarette butts, I would need to sacrifice the Pontiac. This capital was generally inadequate when compared to my personal entrepreneurship. My taverns, my coffee and reading clubs, my model-crafting. Iââ¬â¢m getting to the point at which I can sell World War II naval ship recreations for a profit. No one would know my storage cell housed the Battle of Midway. Then there are my books that I buy and sell later to used book stores. It may be cheaper to go to a library, but the city doesnââ¬â¢t give cards to homeless folk. Still, I manage. The only real resources I depend on is my own personal entrepreneurship, my labor, and the permanence of the land. The capital built up over the years is strictly a luxury. Since my supply of bar beverages is at a constant growth, the supply of such beverages usually comes at a low cost. More and more I see laid off engineers and factory machinists come night after night, drowning their miseries away. Winter approaches, so the construction jockeys are hitting Bourbon Street like an army from hell. Meanwhile, the bars are ordering more and more of their stock. More than probably necessary, as I feel they have built a surplus. Everyday I see trucks stocked with Miller products and Coors make dock. By Tuesday night the bartenders are giving drinks away, they have so much. If their bands of laid-off workers donââ¬â¢t make a buck soon, the bars will start to run into a massive deficit without having a stable consumer base. An unemployed man can only spend for so long. Still, I reap the benefits. And if ever there is a time when someone may ask me why it is I chose my life without shelter; perhaps an intrigued lady aroused by such mystery or a confused little boy who was always taught to work with what they got; I shall tell them both that I live in the market of the free. My entire essence is dedicated to what I want and how accessible it is to make such an acquisition. Everything else is simply an unnecessary expenditure.

The Meaning of Home in The Seafarer Essays -- The Seafarer Essays
The Meaning of Home in The Seafarerà à à à à à à à à à à à à à à It is important to consider the meaning of home when analyzing The Seafarer. The narrator of this poem seems to feel a sense of belonging while traveling the sea despite the fact that he is obviously disillusioned with its hardships .The main character undergoes a transformation in what he considers home and this dramatically affects his life and lifestyle. Towards the end of The Seafarer the poet forces us to consider our mortality, and seems to push the notion that life is just a journey and that we will not truly be at home until we are with God. à The first instance of a sense of home in this poem comes with the description of the former life of the narrator in his pre-seafaring days. He leaves his old life for some unspecified reason, telling us that he was "cut off from his kinsmen", and he talks about this with a definite sense of regret and loss. Winter on the sea is presented as an "exile" or "wrà ¦can"1 , a form of punishment where someone is forced to leave their homeland, the place where they belong. It seems that in the early stages of the poem the seafarer identifies his life with his kinsmen on land as his home, the place that he belongs. à At first he does not seem content with his seafaring life. During the early descriptions of his time there, it is painted as a life of hardship and penance. Images and adjectives of the sea and life there are harsh and foreboding-"ice cold", "hung round with icicles" , "fettered with frost". The sea is seen as cold, and not just in the physical sense .It is remote, a place of despair , an earthly purgatory, where there is "always anxiety â⬠¦. as to what the Lord will bestow on him"2. The narrator is cut away from the comforts ... ... angels"6.What ever home we make for ourselves on Earth, we must keep in perspective that it is only temporary. à To conclude, there are two main opposing representations and aspects of home presented in this poem, from what is seen as the "norm", the narrators life on land, to the "favoured", the narrators life at sea. Home is irrevocably linked to lifestyle and should not just be where the heart is,(though there is a sense that our "Heart's fulfilment" is important) but should more importantly be a place where we can live a life that will bring us towards heaven, which the poem portrays as our eternal home. The Seafarer is a poem which urges us to carefully "consider where we possess our home, and then think how we com thither."à à à Works Cited à Mitchell, Bruce and Robinson, Michael A Guide To Old English, fifth edition 1992 , Blackwell Publishers , Oxford .à Ã

Cultural practices that affect health Essay
To be able to gauge the prevalence of female circumcision, the perception of immigrants on its occurrence and benefits, as well as the actual activity that allows it to happen in these communities, an investigative research should be launched to gather information. Since many states have outlawed female circumcision, its occurrence has become an underground activity (Gibeau, 2006). To be able to fully understand the beliefs behind this practice and to determine how prevalent it is, and the circumstances by which it is conducted there is a need to find out where and who is involved in the practice of female circumcision in the United States. The purpose of this study is to investigate the occurrence of female circumcision in the United States and to determine the following: (1) Who practices female circumcision and promotes its occurrence in the community? (2) Where is female circumcision conducted and in what conditions? (3) What is the attitude and opinion of immigrants and first generation Americans toward female circumcision within the migrant community? This study will focus on the occurrence of female circumcision within the migrant communities of African ethnic decent. Because the goal is to determine how the cultural practices specific to an ethnic group has continued within the migrant community, the study sample will consist of immigrants and their offspring or first generation American-born individuals. The study will be conducted through a series of interviews. Interviewees will be chosen based with primary criteria being they are Africa-born individuals who have successfully migrated in the United States as adults, and continue to live with a family or plan remain to have a family in the United States. Face-to-face interviews will be conducted with the assurance of anonymity for interviewees. A structured questionnaire will be created consisting of open ended questions relating to their views regarding female circumcision and their experience or witness of its occurrence. Relationships in the 1600
Relationships in the 1600 BY Disher84 Ryan Disher 5th hour Due October 18th, 2013 16th Century era of Male and Female Relationship My essay is over Male and Female relationships during the 16th century. In my essay I will be able to tell you what their relationship is based on, How the relationship works, and I will compare some characters from the story Hamlet in my essay also. This essay is full of facts so sit back and enjoy the ride! During the 1600s women were treated as inferior compared to the men who were superior. Women were expected to clean, cook, and tend to the children. Also During his era men argued that women were not capable of higher thinking because a woman's skull is smaller than a man's skull. Another statement that was said, women have wider hips which means there naturally supposed to be mothers. Overall woman were treated poorly and were not treated fair in the relationship either. In the play Hamlet Claudius and Gertrude, Claudius wants to remain King and in o rder to do so he must please Gertrude and show love to Hamlet in front of Gertrude, but behind her back he plots to kill Hamlet.Another good topic is how their relationship works out. During the 1600s women n the upper class were often set up to marry very young. Women of the middle class usually waited till there mid twenties to get married so they had enough money for a household. Women that did not marry were forced to learn some sort of trade to carry on their lives. Child birth was one of the most important things of being a woman, Although men weren't expected to be there while in labor. The woman's family, friends, and mid wife were there for her though.Woman in the upper class who didn't want to breast fed often had other mothers do it for them called wetnurses. Some relationships worked out great and well others didn't go as lanned. In this time, the male was almost always the one who brought in money for the family. Although there were times where the female brought in the bigger chunk of cash. Compared to our current time, where we go to work and then go home; Back then they might of worked right out of there own home and didn't know the ditterence between work lite and tamily lite.It was always tamily lite and they never experienced anything different. In comparison to the story Hamlet, all of Hamlets family had royalty and were most definitely the upper class. People may ask did there relationships work in the 1600s? ell they did, and they didn't. It wasn't a guarantee that they would be together forever. William Shakespeare did not believe in woman having a say in anything. Then there's feminists which say that woman have every right to be treated equal and they can have there own say in what they want to do, who they want to be with, and what there kids do.As a Male(father) you could decide who you married, what your wife did, and what you wanted your children to do. In the 1600s families were bigger and closer than today, the reasons why is bec ause such high death rate of infants because lack of technology and medicine. Which meant that families came together on the farm to help everyone out. Also religion played a major role back than, very often back then the only book in the house was a bible and that's what children used to learn how to read. Another fact about Shakespeare's time is that, once a boy turns 8 he no longer has to listen to his mother. The ideal woman was believed to be a virgin and a faithful wife. Female honor and social respectability were tied in closely to sexuality that death was often presented if the woman was not a virgin. There are so many different relationship views and gender views, and it has all changed as time went n. Some similarities are that men are still usually considered the ââ¬Å"Man of the Houseâ⬠, but there are woman that are very independent and who can do anything and everything them self. Children are expected to respect/obey their parents, Boys carry on the family name.Al though now a day, Females if they would like to keep there maiden name they can keep it; back than if you said that people would of looked at you and thought you were as crazy as Hamlet, for seeing a ghost. Relationships back than were often between man and woman, you were frowned upon if you were with the same sex. The ââ¬Å"Royalâ⬠and the ââ¬Å"Eliteâ⬠were the only type of people that were able to have more than one relationship. If you were born of Royal nature or Elite you were among the few that could have side partner relationships. This reasoning is because those types of classes were the only people that had the time, the money, and the energy to fool around. Middle class people might have had affairs but not as often as the upper class did. Which this problem also leads to having kids with your side partner and also syphilis was considered a rich person disease back then, because they were the only one who, like I said had the time, the oney, and the energy to ââ¬Å"Get Aroundâ⬠. Some might say that Shakespeare cheated on his wife, because he was gone and there were no records of him for a few years.Shakespeare was married to Anne Hathaway, who was eight years older than him. They had there first child on May 26th, 1583 whose name was Susanna. Then 21 months later Anne had gave birth to twins, named Hamnet, and Judith. After that they had no more children and remained married until 1616 when he died. He bought a fine house for his family in Stratford after his only sons death, Hamnet at the age of 11 died in 1596. Shakespeare was buried in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, where Anne later Joined him in 1623.He had lived apart from his wife and children, except every once in while ne would visit them tor at least a decade. Shakespeare was a very well professional writer of his time and has been remembered for centurys. I hope that you have learned a lot from my essay, and you found it very interesting. My only hope is that you were able to walk away from this paper knowing something new, that you hadn't before. My name is Ryan Disher and this is my essay over Male/Female relationships during the 1600s.
